Pro-Anorexia/Bulimia Embedded: A Research-Informed Play

April 27, 2019 | 2:00 pm - April 28, 2019 | 4:00 pm EDT

Join us for a theatre presentation of “Pro-Ana/Mia Embedded: A Research-Informed Play” and a post-performance discussion. The play explores the complexities of pro-ana/mia culture in ways that reject the individualization of eating disorders, and attends to the broader social contexts in which these occur.

I am recruiting two specific groups of audience participants:
#1. Individuals who have been diagnosed with an eating disorder and/or identify as pro-ana/mia and/or experience(d) disordered eating/body image. Performance date: 2-4pm on Saturday, April, 27th, 2019
#2. Healthcare providers, social workers and other mental health experts who work regularly with patients/clients diagnosed with an eating disorder and/or identifying as pro-ana/mia and/or experiencing disordered eating/body image. Performance date: 2-4pm on Sunday, April, 28th, 2019.
PLEASE NOTE: This play is being presented as part of my doctoral dissertation research at the University of Toronto. As such, audience members will be asked to participate in a post-performance audience discussion that explores their insights, perspectives, and opinions about the play. The entire event will be audio-taped for research purposes. The theatre event will be approx 2 hours long from 2-4pm.
Tickets are FREE, but as this is part of a research project you will need to review and sign a consent form if you wish to participate and you may withdraw consent at any time. Please email [email protected] to receive a consent form that provides more details about the play, the research project and your rights to confidentiality as a research participant.
