Pride Walk: LGBTQ+ Heritage in the Village

June 15, 2019 | 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT

For much of the past 70 years, Yonge and Church Streets south of Bloor were home to the bars, clubs and baths that constituted what mainstream society thought of as “the twilight world of the homosexual.” Join us and our partners from the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA) on a walk through Toronto’s queer past and follow the footsteps of activists who struggled to find a public space they could call their own.

Start Point: The ArQuives (34 Isabella Street)

End Point: AIDS Memorial at Barbara Hall Park (519 Church Street)

Note: Certain portions of this tour may include walking on uneven terrain. Please contact Heritage Toronto at 416-338-0684 or [email protected] for more information.

Special thanks to the ArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives [CLGA]) for partnering with us to present this tour. Sign up for the ArQuives newsletter here: https://arquives.ca/sign-up-to-our-newsletter/.

On June 15, The ArQuives will be hosting an open house from 1-4pm at 34 Isabella Street. Feel free to visit the open house prior to joining us on the tour.

Immediately following the Pride Walk tour, Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens (60 Carlton Street) is hosting an additional experience for tour participants. More details to follow.
