Mental Health: Confronting Stigma

Toronto Local Immigration Partnerships invite you to an interactive workshop about confronting the stigma faced by vulnerable newcomers with mental illness.
This is a “train the trainer” workshop. Participants will be provided with a short PowerPoint presentation with talking points that they can use to briefly present the information they learned with their organizations.
CONTENT:

Understand the impact of stigma on vulnerable newcomers;

Learn about the difference between “mental health” & “mental illness”;

Explore differences in the understanding of mental illness across cultures;

Learn how to talk to vulnerable newcomers with mental illness, including appropriate terminology to use;

Understand what trauma-informed care is, and why it is so important.
This workshop is being developed and facilitated in partnership with Craig Currah, Case Worker and Recreational Therapist, Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (CAMH).
