bOlder Together: Doing Grief-Work Together

August 27, 2019 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Free

Learn about grief-work rooted in community and self-care, and explore individual and communal grieving strategies – with educator and community-builder Margeaux Feldman.

Despite the fact that death – and, by extension, grief – will happen to us all, we really don’t know what to do when faced with another person’s grief. While public grieving used to be a common practice, now grief is considered a private emotion, best confined to one’s home. How can we return to an understanding of grief that is rooted in the community? What might a practice of communal grief look like? How can it serve to support the individual grieving?

Participants in this workshop will begin to unpack some of the beliefs they hold about grief, explore strategies for grief work rooted in self-care and community-care, and leave with a better understanding of their own capacity to do grief work with others.

Margeaux Feldman is an educator, writer, and community builder living in Toronto. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of Toronto, and holds certificates in Community-Engaged Learning and Conflict Resolution. With almost a decade’s worth of experience teaching inside and outside of academia, at the heart of Margeaux’s work is a commitment to collaboration, compassion, and care. A queer and disabled femme, it is her (unpopular) opinion that failure is necessary for learning and growth. You can learn more about her at margeauxfeldman.com.
